The Pontiac GTO is considered by many the first true muscle car. When other manufacturers were concentrating on their full size lines Pontiac saw the potential for dropping a big block engine into an intermediate frame and marketing it at a budget price. 1964 was the year that started it all when Pontiac put a GTO package together as an option on their LeMans and Tempest models. In 1968 GM introduced the 2nd generation which offered a shorter wheel base and length as well as a dropped height which gave it a more curvaceous semi fastback style. This particular example is PHS certified and has just undergone a frame off concourse restoration. This was originally a 400 ci Automatic car that was converted to a 455 ci 4 Speed during its restoration. The heart of this gorgeous muscle car is a freshly rebuilt date code correct XF block rated at 360 hp. It is adorned with the correct cast # 64 heads and everything (except the battery) is 100% date code correct. It also has been converted to a 4 speed Muncie tranny which was just rebuilt as was the original 12 bolt rear end. It was factory optioned with power brakes, power steering, an electronic clock, a spare, a trunk mat, factory floor mats and a push button AM radio. During the restoration the owner added the correct hood mounted tachometer as well as the airfoil deck lid spoiler. The Starlight Black paint is flawless as well as the perfect compliment to the all new black interior. The end result is a car so perfect that you would think it just rolled off the assembly line in 1970. Considering the caliber of the restoration we would undoubtedly classify this is a # 1 car and accordingly would appraise this car at the high N.A.D.A. value which is currently $64,080 for a 1970 GTO with a 400 ci and automatic trans GTO. If you have been looking for a real GTO you will be hard pressed to find one in this condition with the options installed during restoration for what we are asking so if you like what you see don’t wait until it’s too late to call!
